Remember our Ebay bargain, Trademarks & Symbols, Volume 2: Symbolical Designs by Yasaburo Kuwayama, well it arrived today and it is every bit as great as we expected. There are 1500+ marks from all over the world organised into themed sections - the pics above show pages from the Circles, Birds and Eye categories. It's a great piece of reference, so the search is now on for volume 1!

How many volumes did he edit ? I can't find any extensive bibliography...
Anon - I'm not absolutely sure, but I foound this list which seems quite extensive:
Trademarks and Symbols of the World: Design Elements
Trademarks and Symbols: Symbolical Design, Vol. 2
Trademarks & symbols
Trademarks and Symbols of the World: Pictogram & Sign Design, Volume
INTERNATIONAL LOGOTYPES - Volume One
International Corporate Design: Logotypes & Pictograms vol 2
European Trademarks
Trademarks & symbols of the world: the alphabet in design
Logotypes of the World 2 (International Logotypes)
Trademarks and Symbols, Volume 1: Alphabetical Designs
Hope this helps, thanks for stopping by :)
Thanks. I only knew the Franco Maria Ricci series "Top Symbols and Trademarks" which is really great (http://www.typogabor.com/logotypes/index.html).
I've found this list but I'm not sure it's correct :
- Trademarks and Symbols of the World I: Alphabet in Design
- Trademarks and Symbols of the World II : Symbolical Designs
- Trademarks and Symbols of the World III : Pictogram and Sign Design
- Trademarks and Symbols of the World IV: European Trademarks
- Trademarks and Symbols of the World : Design Elements
- International Corporate Design: vol. 1 & 2 (Trademarks & Symbols / Logotypes & Pictograms)
Perhaps we should try to set up a page on Wikipedia ;)
Thanks again. Your blog is really great.
Romain - Thanks for your info and glad you are enjoying the blog :)
I didn't think there were so many titles, shame they are so hard to find!
I will definitely help set up a Wikipedia page with the list of books that we had found and allowing people to add to it making it a definitive list, but do you know how to do that? I'm not very technical I'm afraid.
